Show as Conversations:
Looking for a particular email in a long email chain can be difficult.
Outlook offers a setting called "Show as Conversations".
This will display emails as a conversation chain with each email listed as a part of the conversation.
To enable this setting:
- Click on the "View" tab at the top of your screen.
- There will be a "Show as Conversations" option which can be enabled or disabled.
- Depending on your Ribbon Style, the exact location of this setting changes.
"Show as Conversations" in Classic Ribbon:
"Show as Conversations" in Simplified Ribbon:
After you select "Show as Conversations", Outlook will ask you if this setting should be applied to:
- This Folder
- All Mailboxes
- Cancel
This is entirely up to you.
I suggest selecting "All Mailboxes" for consistency.
Below you will find examples of how your emails may appear before and after the setting is applied.
Before setting is applied:
After setting is applied:
Note: Clicking on the triangle next to your message will expand the conversation further and show any replies you have sent (if applicable).
Focused Inbox:
Outlook will have the "Focused Inbox" enabled by default.
Focused inbox will organize your emails by importance.
This can be beneficial; however, you may not want Outlook to organize your emails this way.
Removing the Focused Inbox will show you all your emails and organize them in the manner you choose. (All, Unread, Flagged, Mentioned)
To enable or disable Focused Inbox:
- Head over to the "View" tab at the top of your screen.
- Click on "Show Focused Inbox" to enable or disable this view.
- Note: Depending on your Ribbon style, the exact location of this setting will vary. See example screenshots below.
